The surrounding area is wild and a hiker's and beach combers paradise that can be combined with archeological and speleological explorations. Mattanza Tuna Fishing in Southern Italy

Tiziana Savinelli, photographer who lives on the island of San Pietro off the southwestern tip of the island of Sardegna, documented the thousand year old tuna fishing event called "Mattanza". Fishermen from the local "tonnara" stand on large barges that are at the end of a maize of nets tuna get caught in and are clubbed to death, a fishing tradition that has been repeated throughout Sicily and Sardegna for centuries. This bloody event that is followed by religious chanting in thanks to the gods is fully documented in a poetic yet real life artful photography by Tiziana.
