Piennolo tomatoes are small cherry tomatoes preserved in water are a regional specialty specifically grown on the foothills of Mt. Vesuvius where they can be seeing hanging (piennolo) outside peoples homes. They are delicious cooked briefly over a high flame and served immediately over Gentile pasta.
